Alitalia narrows loss as it nears ownership change

First-quarter net loss for Alitalia Linee Aeree Italiane S.p.A. narrowed to $180.3 mil compared to last year, and revenue increased 7.3%. Two consortia remain in a bid to acquire the airline: Russia's OAO Aeroflot-Airlines and Italian bank UniCredit S.p.A., and Italy's second top airline, Air One, and Italian bank Intesa Sanpaolo S.p.A.

Potential bidders for Alitalia hear Rome's advice

The Italian government has estimated that it will take approximately $4.03 bil to acquire the airline Alitalia S.p.A. and make it profitable again. Potential bidders include the private equity consortium TPG Capital LLP and OAO Aeroflot-Russian Airlines.
