Doubts exist over whether the new strategy of the World Bank and its affiliates to encourage private investment in developing countries will prove to be a wise one. By promoting more private investment, the World Bank is losing its once-dominant position as the leading lender to poor nations.

Low-wage countries such as China and Bangladesh do not threaten workers in developed countries because lower wages tend ot be linked to lower productivity. Developing countries will also use their gains to buy products from developed countries.
