The effects of social environment
Article Abstract:
Western Electric Co conducted two experiments at its Hawthorne Plant to investigate the social aspects of work. The studies focused on the interrelationships between the social and economic functions of industrial groups. The impact of changes in working speed on social relations among the workers was also examined. Results of the experiments indicated that the equilibrium between the spontaneity of the social organization of workers and the technical organization affected the morale and productivity of the workers at Hawthorne.
