Investigations into Parmalat S.p.A. finances have resulted in accusations that founder Calisto Tanzi misappropriated an estimated half a billion euros, and that employees began destroying documents as the investigations were launched. Auditors of the dairy company are being included in the investigations.

Parmalat prosecutors hit obstacle: Milan judge blocks effort for a quick indictment of firms and individuals

Judge Guido Piffer refused a request for fast-tracking the Parmalat S.p.A. fraud trial, citing lack of clear evidence. Piffer did, however, indicate that prosecutors could indict under normal judicial proceedings.
