Seized ship set to train inspectors
Article Abstract:
South Africa's fisheries department is going to use 'Eagle Star', a deepsea rock lobster ship confiscated from Cape Town based Hout Bay Fishing Industries to train its personnel. Hout Bay was fined $5 million in 2002 for overfishing. The department bought the ship from Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU), a unit of South African Police Service, which took over the vessel in 2001.

EU no discards trials
Article Abstract:
European Union fisheries commission is planning to purchase trawlers to check the by catch discards in the areas under its jurisdiction. It may be noted that fishermen from EU discard healthy fish dead into the sea on the grounds that they are either undersize or out of quota or through high-grading. The need to form policies penalizing such actions is also discussed.
