America cracks down: Japanese banks

Bank regulators are looking at Japanese banks operating in the US. Especially in California, these banks have been on a 'foreign-lending frenzy.' Almost every new office complex in Los Angeles in the late 1980 was financed by Japanese banks. Now the value of these buildings, many empty, has dropped.

The French lay siege to Fortress Germany
Article Abstract:
French state-owned banks and insurance companies are trying to start businesses in Germany. Business in Germany could lead to opportunities in the rest of Eastern Europe. But German firms such as Aachener und Munchener have been uncooperative in forming partnerships.
