Apax backs Brands

Apax Partners has financed a buyout at Brands Hatch Leisure (BHL). BHL, which is the owner of four racing circuits in the UK, is seeking to go public after three years. Nicola Foulston holds a 10% stake in the company, previously owned by her father, and could increase her stake to 20% through a ratchet agreement. Apax Partners has invested 8 million pounds sterling in this acquisition, and a 7.5 million pounds loan has been provided by Bank of Scotland.

The 190 million pounds sterling acquisition of Pubmaster from Brent Walker was one of the largest leveraged buyouts in 1996. Pubmaster was established in 1991 to manage Brent Walker's pub portfolio previously acquired from Grand Metropolitan. An analysis of the key issues facing the main equity players involved in the deal is presented.

Apax/Siemens - deal melt down

Inadequate funding has caused the collapse of a $470 million leveraged buy-out by Apax to take over Mannesmann Plastics Machinery from it's parent company Siemens in October 2001.
