Amid the rubble rises the hope of a fast recovery
Article Abstract:
Economic analysts believe that Hong Kong may be able to reestablish its economy in the face of the recent regional financial crisis. They claim that high interest rates and funding constraints would eventually force run-down and bad companies to abandon their businesses, providing enough leverage for start-up companies to emerge. However, despite such opportunities, the government must be able to introduce major political reforms in order to address various bureaucracy issues.

Currency peg appears brittle in region's rattled markets
Article Abstract:
Asia's unstable currency is again placing pressure on the strong Hong Kong dollar as local confidence in the currency's long-term prospects weakens. Hong Kong has sustained its exchange-rate connection with the US dollar amid a sharp rise in interbank lending rates, but skepticism among investors mounts. The Hong Kong Association of Banks reported that its members banks will increase short-term deposit rates by 75.0 basis points.

Hong Kong's balancing act
Article Abstract:
Hong Kong's survival may depend on free market elements forcing a drop in property prices, a rise in unemployment and a surge in bankruptcies. Hong Kong has one of the more laissez-faire policies in the region and this adherence to the free market may yet prove to be the country's key to economic growth. Asian countries are largely managed by protectionist and regulatory principles that economic growth has failed to materialize.
