An approach for finding the most preferred alternative in the presence of multiple criteria
Article Abstract:
An interactive approach is presented for the selection of the mostpreferred alternative among multiple criteria in a decision-making paradigm. Pairs of alternatives, whether existing or dummies created from the former, arecompared. These are then eliminated through either the direct responses of the decision maker or by constructing minor solutions based on the responses. The most preferred alternative emerges if the decision maker has a nondecreasing quasi-concave value function. Results of the model are also compared with thoseof other similar approaches.

Handling multiple sources of variation using influence diagrams
Article Abstract:
The use of influence diagrams to create a probabilistic inference system which captures uncertainty for decision-making and statistical analysis problems characterized by 'many sources of variations' is explored. Specifically, it is shown that influence diagrams enable complex decision problems to be modeled in such a way that expert judgments are easily encoded while allowing quick computation of probabilities.
