An inspector calls
Article Abstract:
An inspection has been carried out of local government social services departments in the United Kingdom. These departments help vulnerable people such as the handicapped, the aged, and abused children. There are wide variations in the efficiency of these departments. The department at Liverpool costs more than in other metropolitan areas, but much of this spending appears to be wasted. Neighboring Knowsley spends less with similar deprivation levels, allows users a voice in how services are run, and there is cooperation with the police and other local agencies.
