An invaluable environment
Article Abstract:
Environmentalists have noted that gross domestic product measurements exclude natural capital, but it is difficult to measure the value of environmental assets. Some assets may have a value on the market, while others, such as the provision of a habitat for wildlife, cannot be treated as easily in this way. Physical units such as tonnes of greenhouses gases emitted can instead be used, but this does not tackle the problem of measuring the degradation of the environment, so does not encourage a new viewpoint on economic growth.

Water hazard
Article Abstract:
Diseases such as diarrhoea, and parasitic worm infestation can be established in populations without good water and sanitation. Improvements cause dramatic reductions in such sickness. The inadequate water and sanitation bureaucracy in poorer countries is a major reason for the pollution.
