Anti-trust office against unified ENEL
Article Abstract:
Italy's anti-trust office opposes the privatization of Ente Nazionale per l'Energia Elettrica (Enel) as a single body, arguing instead for more competition in the industry. This can be achieved by liberalizing the market, ending Enel's monopoly, and reorganizing Enel prior to its sale. Distribution, transmission and production should be separated, and local operators set up for distribution, the office argues. Enel is scheduled for privatization in 1996, though delays are likely.

First electricity sale in Hungary
Article Abstract:
PowerGen has acquired a 95.5% stake in Csepeli Eromu RT, a Hungarian electric power plant. This is the first such privatization in Hungary. Powergen is not interested in privatization in Hungary in general but is merely interested in power plants, according to the company's European operations director. Eight companies have shown interest in the privatization of Hungary's electricity industry, and some privatizations are likely ot be completed before the end of 1995.
