A fast interactive solution method for large capital expenditure selection problems
Article Abstract:
A method that helps decision makers to choose the best set of alternatives in dealing with large capital expenditure problems is presented. The method, referred to as trade-off optimization, is useful even when decision makers know that there are qualitative factors to be considered and that the resource and quality service level constraints are not fixed, but depends upon returns available from changing them. In this method, soft constraints are treated as objectives in a multiobjective formulation. The three advantages of the method are discussed.

Transitive calibration of the AHP verbal scale
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to examine the hypothesis that it may be appropriate to calibrate the verbal scale employed by decision makers using the analytic Hierarchy Process. A simple experiment suggests that the Saaty 1-9 numeric scale can generate some artificial inconsistency for a given matrix of verbal assessments. Results also provide evidence that the calibration can be used to do a simple sensitivity analysis when judgements are uncertain.
