Application of the simulated annealing algorithm to the combinatorial optimisation problem with permutation property: an investigation of generation mechanism
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of using the simulated annealing (SA) algorithm in finding solutions to combinatorial optimization problems with permutation property. The SA algorithm has been tested on the Traveling Salesman Problem, Flow-shop Scheduling Problem and the Quadratic Assignment Problem. Experimental evaluations show that that the SA algorithm employing a proper perturbation scheme provides very efficient solutions to these combinatorial optimisation problems.

The optimisation of defense expenditure
Article Abstract:
An aggregated quantitative model is used as an aid to defense budget planning. The results show conflict models in specific geographical contexts which serve as a basis in defense expenditure planning. The method allows for an expedient analysis of hypothetical situations as compared to conventional methods. However, the system is limited in view of its relative lack of detail and its purpose is to provide general indications of defense priorities.
