Approval for new Guangzhou airport
Article Abstract:
The Chinese government has announced its formal approval for initial construction work on the planned Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport. Total airport construction budget has been estimated at US$2.3 billion and the facility is expected to be completed by 2010. Roughly 60% of the budget has been earmarked for Phase One, which involves the building of a 327,000 square-meter terminal facility with 46 gates for medium to large aircraft, two parallel runways, an apron area, airport parking facilities and air traffic management equipment.

Bangkok airport controversy
Article Abstract:
Construction of the $3.5 billion New Bangkok International Airport (NBIA) is proceeding along despite the controversy caused by the higher costs estimated by Pacific Consultants International (PCI), the project management consultant. The Royal Thai Government has approved a specified budget of Bt42 billion ($1.2 billion) for the NBIA. PCI has estimated that the construction costs of the airport will be 70% higher than the approved budget.

Bangkok start gets closer
Article Abstract:
The New Bangkok International Airport Co (NBIA) is the new state enterprise formed by the Thai government to oversee the construction of the $4-billion second Bangkok International Airport slated to begin later in 1999. Slated to be finished in 2004, the planned airport will be situated on a 20,000-hectare location at Nong Ngu Hao in Samut Prakan Province to the southeast of Bangkok, Thailand.
