Arts festival ignores built art: government's 6 million pound sterling snub
Article Abstract:
Architecture has been ignored in an arts festival to be held throughout the UK to mark Britain's presidency of the EC. Prime Minister Major originated the idea and the government is spending six million pounds sterling on 600 arts event. However, the only event that has any architectural content is an exhibition on the work of Jean Nouvel, dealing with contemporary architecture in Europe. The Royal Institute of British Architects and the Architecture Foundation have expressed disappointment that, in Britain, architecture is considered of little value as an art.
