Many African nations continue to practice the tradition of female genital mutilation, with some 6,000 young women forced to endure the operation daily. However, there is a growing resistance to the procedure, both within the individual countries and on an international basis.

A Japanese retailer and the city of Memphis, TN, have found ways to sell art to the public outside of museums and galleries. Takashimaya sells fine art in its New York, NY, store and Memphis' Convention Centre attracts huge crowds to its combined art and history exhibitions.
