Asia's pain Hong Kong's gain?
Article Abstract:
China's presence in Hong Kong is discreet and no major changes are evident. However, the economic crisis in Asia has reduced the tourist trade by 25%, hotel occupancy has fallen to 71% compared to 90% before the crisis and property prices have fallen by between 30-40% since Oct 1997. Interest rates and unemployment have risen. China refuses to devalue its own currency to support the Hong Kong dollar. However, the benefits of the crisis include giving foreign companies a chance to buy cheaply into Hong Kong companies or get involved in building projects linked to the new airport.

Great minds think alike
Article Abstract:
Modern management ideas may appear to be innovative, but in fact are almost all based on around six basic concepts that have existed for many years. Many of the key management ideas of the 20th century have their roots in Scientific Management, which was conceived by management consultant Frederick Winslow Taylor, and Humanism, which was pioneered by Elton Mayo. The leading management consultant in the 20th century has been Peter Drucker, whose ideas have included management by objectives, privatization and the knowledge worker.
