Fortescue Metals Group Ltd. has requested access to Australia's railway lines for its iron-ore developers that may impact the benefits that BHP Billiton Ltd. is targeting in its takeover bid for UK mining firm Rio Tinto PLC. BHP has stated it will pursue legal action to restrict third-party access to the railway lines.

Ivanhoe-Rio mining accord is withdrawn by Mongolia
Article Abstract:
The Mongolian government withdrew a draft agreement for a gold and copper project from parliamentary consideration, instead planning to form a team of legislators and cabinet ministers to examine the project. The project is backed by Canada's Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. and Australian mining company Rio Tinto Ltd.
