Austria: Pay increase at Telekom Austria
Article Abstract:
As a result of the negotiations of the collective contract, the 18,000 employees of Telekom Austria will receive a pay increase of 2.5% by 1 January 2002. For 5,500 employees, under contract in the land line section, Mobilkom and Datakom, a pension scheme will be set up. For 3,000 employees under contract a pre-draw in pay and bonuses of the next 15 years will be added to the wages by probabilistic capacity load reduction and offset a cut back in supplementary grants. This means a monthly increase of Sch 1,400 to Sch 4,900 for each employee according to position.

AUSTRIA: TELEKOM AUSTRIA TO CUT STAFF
Article Abstract:
By 2003, Telekom Austria is to cut staff by 10% from the 16,700 at the end of 1998. The 1,049 employees who reach the age of 55 between 1 August 1999 and 31 December 2000 may retire. This is expected to cost the company Sch 1.5bn. Telekom Austria expects 850 employees to accept the offer. In that case, the group would have to cut another 800 jobs by natural wastage or by other means. Theoretically, the digitisation of the telephone network would mean even more layoffs. However, Telekom Austria wants to retrain staff for new services.
