Austria/Slovenia: Reaction to electricity import ban
Article Abstract:
As one of the 15 countries from which Austria has banned electricity imports on environmental or humanitarian grounds, Slovenia has banned imports of Austrian electricity. It is expected that the impact on the electricity industry will be small, as the bans can be circumvented by buying the electricity via suppliers in other countries, but the effect on other industries could be larger because of the worsening of diplomatic relations between the countries. For example, the Austrian banks which are applying to take over Slovenian banks following their privatisation are likely to be affected.
