Austrian Airlines' operating profit drops

Austrian Airlines posted a decline of 83% to 75.6 million schillings in its operating profits for the first-half of 1999. The carrier was hurt by the war in Kosovo and by a decline in traffic going to Turkey. Austrian Airlines posted a fall of 97% in adjusted pretax profits for the period to 13.2 million schillings (959,300 euros). However, the carrier is predicting that it will be able to reduce costs by about 400 million schillings.

VA Tech's results meet expectations

VA Technologie AG reported a fall in pretax profit of 17% for the 1998 year. The results were generally what analysts had predicted for the company. VA's pretax profit dropped to 1.5 billion schillings ($123.2 million). In 1997, the company posted 1.8 billion schillings in pretax profits. Analysts had predicted VA to post approximately 1.43 billion schillings in pretax profits.
