BAD MARKET FORCES TELCO TO CUT INDICA OUTPUT BY HALF
Article Abstract:
Tata Engineering and Locomotive Company Ltd (Telco) has reduced its production target for Indica, its small car, by 50 percent. The move follows the poor state of the automobile market. It now plans to produce 10,000 cars as against earlier target of 20,000 cars. Telco expects the sales of Indica to rise to 40,000 during 1999-2000 and to 60,000 during 2000-01. It has finished all the test drives and other tests needed to be completed before the launch. Telco has started producing Indica at its Pune factory. It plans to launch the car during the second week of December 1998 and start booking soon after. Telco will start the delivery by the first week of January 1999. Both the basic and deluxe models of Indica will be available in the petrol and diesel versions over a period of time. (ag)
