Columbia spins two new music clubs

The Columbia House Company has launched two new music clubs in Canada called "play" and CDHQ. Play is a positive option club where members only have to respond when they are ordering something. Most music clubs are negative option, requiring members to return reply cards declining the monthly selection. CDHQ is aimed at a youthful audience. It is a negative option club, but new members only have to purchase one regular priced CD to fulfill membership obligations.

Mutual uncertainty

Mutual funds firms are struggling with their marketing efforts as they try to face stock market volatility and increased cautiousness among consumers. Ascot Marketing President Bob Scott projects that ad spending among fund managers would decline and that focus would probably be more on conservative mutual fund products such as balanced funds, fixed-income funds and money market funds.
