Rover losses undermine BMW's profit

BMW's profit jumps by 62% despite slowing economy

Bayerische Motoren Werke AG announced a "significant improvement" in the earnings for 2001, after beating analysts' second-quarter forecasts. The car maker announced that profit from ordinary activities increased 62% to Euro847 million during the second quarter over the same period a year earlier. Sales adjusted for the sale of its Rover unit rose 28% to Euro10.61 billion.

BMW net falls 28%; Rover losses grow

Bayerische Motoren Werke AG (BMW) posted a 28% decline in its net profits for the 1998 year. The company attributed the lower profits to the "considerably increased" losses suffered at its Rover unit. BMW's core brand however, did see strong growth in earnings. The car maker's net profits dropped to 903 million deustschemarks ($507.7 million) for the year ending on December 31, 1998.
