United Parcel Service of America Inc. (UPS) will restate its earnings for the second-quarter of 1999 in order to reflect a one-time charge of $1.44 billion (1.36 billion euros). UPS is planning to hold an initial public offering during the latter part of 1999. The company's $588 million quarterly profit is eliminated as a result of the earnings restatement. UPS now posts a quarterly loss of $854 million.
