BRITISH GAS GETS FIPB APPROVAL TO INVEST IN TRANCHES
Article Abstract:
The holding company of British Gas India has been permitted to invest in downstream projects entitled to automatic approval. It does not have to seek the clearance of the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) of the Government of India for further investments. British Gas India had sought exemption from FIPB approval for investments in joint ventures and subsidiaries covered under the list of high priority industries. Till date, all foreign-owned Indian holding companies had to get clearance from the Government for subsequent investment in downstream projects. British Gas India had set up the holding company in early 1998 with Government permission. (um)
