Article Abstract:
Hyderabad, the capital of Andhra Pradesh, is becoming a powerful infotech city. The Hyderabad unit of the Software Technology Parks of India has created good facilities and infrastructure for the setting up of information technology companies. Now, the park is offering an IBS earth station, digital microwave network for local links, TDMA network for local links, digital microwave 8x2 MB and WWW Home Page Service. It is also offering the services of 3 US carriers (Worldcom, AT&T and MCI), 1 UK carrier (British Telecom), 1 Netherlands carrier, 1 Singapore carrier and 1 Belgium carrier. It is also offering Internet services through WAN/LAN/Dial-up/TDMA. The park is also offering incentives like single-window government approvals, income-tax holiday for 10 consecutive years and a dedicated teleport for providing high- speed data communication facility. It is also offering high quality trained labour in segments like enterprise resource planning and software project management. This STP does not levy any customs or federal excise duties. (ag)

WISCONSIN-MADISON UNIVERSITY PLANS SATELLITE CAMPUS IN CHANDIGARH
Article Abstract:
Wisconsin-Madison, a leading university of the US, proposes to establish a satellite campus at Chandigarh in Punjab. The campus will offer programmes such as Master's in business administration and agricultural research. It is also likely to offer regular graduate courses on the US model. The first two years of the graduate courses will be on the satellite campus, while the final two years will be on the US campus. The satellite campus will train around 4,000 students, of this 500 will be from Wisconsin- Madison. The campus is likely to start operations from January 2000. The Government of Punjab is offering the necessary physical infrastructure, while the teaching faculty and other investments, worth $7 million, will be provided by Wisconsin-Madison. Wisconsin-Madison will meet its fund requirements through a grant offered by the Dhaliwal Foundation. (ag)(psr)
