Baby food in Italy
Article Abstract:
Sales of baby food grew just 2% in Italy to 67,000 tons worth about L1,000 billion in 1997, with domestically-produced foods accounting for most sales. Imports accounted for most of the cereal-based baby food market. Nestle, Nutricia, Star and Plada account for 90% of sales combined, with most sales achieved via supermarkets and pharmacies. The market is expected to maintain growth of around 2-3% annually due to the rising number of working mothers, growing consumer spending power and the increasing birth rate.
