Back in business
Article Abstract:
The coming to power of Philippine president Joseph Estrada in Jun 1998 may signal the return to both the political arena and the brewing industry of tycoon Eduardo Cojuangco. Conjuangco was a close ally of deposed president Ferdinand Marcos but has not been close to the centre of power in recent years. Estrada hopes that ruling party members will elect Cojuangco as their party leader. Analysts also expect Estrada to return Cojuangco's 20% share in San Miguel Brewery Ltd. which was taken from him by a previous administration. Cojuangco may then regain the position of Chairman at San Miguel.
