Demerger planning
Article Abstract:
Group demergers can be complicated and careful planning should focus on the commercial, tax, financial and legal arrangements. Demergers involve the division of a group into several smaller businesses, with separately managed businesses the most simple to demerge. Demergers can add to shareholder value as the total value of the individual businesses can exceed that of the conglomerate as a whole. The shareholders of the large group also subsequently own the demerged companies. Demergers can open up access to different funding sources.

The exaggerated death of the conglomerate
Article Abstract:
Some merger and acquisition bankers believe that the market has turned against conglomerate concerns. Indeed, many have been broken up recently, and the share prices of those which remain tend to be weak. However, other observers believe that this is simply a sign of the conglomerate sector as a whole becoming more mature. One of the driving forces behind the recent spate of unbundlings is growing pressure on management time.
