Back to life, back to reality
Article Abstract:
There has been a revival in the European high yield debt market since Mar 1999. Many observers believe that there is now strong interest in assets around Europe, as highlighted by the largest European corporate bond ever assembled for Olivetti's takeover of Telecom Italia. There is less certainty about the leveraged buyout market. Large US investment banks are finding sufficient opportunities in Europe to meet their demand for assets, but middle market players are tending to be more cautious. This seems to be creating a degree of fragmentation.

Europe sees advances on all fronts
Article Abstract:
It is becoming increasingly common in western Europe for private equity to be used to transfer the ownership of businesses. Buyout players are being particularly attracted to Germany, despite the fact that there is still some unpredictability in the structuring of deals there. The wider availability of exit options has played a key role in boosting the continental European management buyout market, but the market continues to change rapidly.
