Article Abstract:
Regional development agencies (RDAs) will begin operating in eight English regions in Apr 1999. The government believes that the RDAs will play a valuable role in reducing economic disparities between regions, thus lifting environmental pressure on southern England. The main roles of the RDAs are business efficiency, investment and competitiveness; economic development and regeneration; sustainable development; skills and educational development and promotion of employment.

Article Abstract:
Asian phone companies considering diversification out of their core markets have a few role models in the region. Telstra, former Australian monopoly phone operator, moved into cable TV three years ago, and Hongkong Telecom has recently launched its interactive TV service. In Australia Telstra continues to handle around 90% of all calls in the country, seven years after deregulation.
