Ban the tests?
Article Abstract:
Recent talks on renewing the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty have centered on continuing the ban on testing of nuclear weapons. Testing can lead to safer nuclear weapons, and since verification of tests is difficult anyway legal testing may help limit the size and number of tests.

Booms and busts: French Polynesia
Article Abstract:
Environmentalists were very pleased by the French decision to suspend nuclear testing in the South Pacific, but the people of French Polynesia where the testing took place are not as happy. The French military presence has brought a great deal of prosperity to their islands.
