Bandwidth from thin air
Article Abstract:
The radio spectrum is valuable and parts of it are auctioned by governments. Engineers have developed ways of permitting devices to share frequencies by transmitting through taking turns. Multiple simultaneous transmissions are being developed using one frequency, as one method that has changed ideas on radio transmissions. Another development involves using a large number of frequencies at the same time. Both technologies involve more bandwidth with greater computational complexity to pay for it, and computing power cost has dropped, while bandwidth demand has risen, so this complexity can be affordable.

Out of the loop
Article Abstract:
British Telecom's (BT) lack of a clear strategy is shown by the bids it has received for its 'local loop' and its whole fixed-line infrastructure. BT needs to decide if it should focus on its services or its infrastructure.
