Bankers expect Japanese lending to Asia will continue
Article Abstract:
Japanese banks are keen on continuing their lending activities in Asia despite the presence of regional currency crisis. Reduction in lending will not likely to take place since their operation in Asian countries remain diversified and competitive. Loans given by Japanese banks are protected from declining Asian currencies mainly because they are in dollar or yen denomination and are guaranteed by the borrower's parent companies. Japanese manufacturers in several Asian countries also constitute to as much as 50% of all Japanese lending in the region.

Engine of Japanese economy shifts to domestic demand, data indicates
Article Abstract:
The Japan Economic Planning Agency announced that the country's economy grew by some 3.6% during the 4th qtr. of 1995, the strongest rate seen since 1991. Experts believe this to be a clear indication that Japan is finally recovering from its long economic slump. Moreover, unlike past recoveries which were based on strong export activity, the present one is being driven by strong domestic demand.
