Bankruptcy reform reshapes debtor-creditor partnership
Article Abstract:
Asian countries may be able to recoup efficiently from the adverse consequences of the regional financial crisis by promoting debtor-creditor relationship rather than recoursing to liquidation measures. By facilitating debtor-credit partnership, as what Thai and Indonesian officials have done, creditors may be able to effect business restructuring programs, while providing new loans to debtors. Such an alternative further provides legislators with various opportunities to focus on bankruptcy and moratorium proceedings.

Markets turn cold shoulder: mild finance measures leave investors sulky
Article Abstract:
The Thai government announced a financial restructuring plan to reform the battered financial sector. Thai officials had hinted at raising capital requirement for banks, but the restructuring package did not say anything about it. Meanwhile, the government surprisingly lifted most restrictions on foreign ownership in domestic banks and finance companies.
