Schering-Plough Corp. acquired the exclusive rights to market Bayer AG's products in the U.S. The move is seen as an attempt, by Schering-Plough, to increase revenue, in the wake of its loss of patent protection on Claritin, in 2002. The company insists that the partnership is not the first step toward a merger.

Watson Pharmaceuticals to buy rival generic-drug firm Andrx
