Sinn Fein lost its only member of parliament, Gerry Addams, in the UK's Apr 1992 general election. Addams was ousted by Social Democratic and Labour Party candidate Joe Hendron, who received a large measure of support from Protestant voters who normally back Unionist Party candidates.
