Berlin's space odyssey
Article Abstract:
Berlin's three airports struggle to cope with the influx of new business traffic resulting from the transfer of Germany's capital from Bonn to the city. The difficulty of finding a private airport operator has not yet affected the scheduled opening of a new airport by 2007 but the opening could be delayed if no bidder could be selected by 2001. Germany plans to develop East Germany's Schonefeld Airport into the new Berlin Brandenburg International Airport with two runways, with a capacity to handle 50 million passengers annually.
