We have the technology
Article Abstract:
European information technology (IT) companies have traditionally found it difficult to establish a presence in the US. However, this situation is now beginning to change. The number of purchases by European IT companies in North America reached 147 in 1998, from 115 in 1997, and European IT companies, which have seen a sharp rise in their valuations, can now afford to purchase very good US companies. Recent deals include the agreed $2 billion cash bid by Dutch IT services concern Getronics for Wang Global.

Private equity takes a gamble
Article Abstract:
New niches are emerging within the information technology (IT) sector which present attractive opportunities for private equity firms. There is still a gap in private equity provision compared with the US in terms of early stage investment, but some observers believe that this gap is now closing. It is likely that the number of public-to-private deals in the IT sector, which has already been rising in the UK, will also begin rising in continental Europe.
