Bertelsmann to broaden its multimedia offerings

Bertelsmann AG, the biggest media company in Europe, is expanding its operation with the launching of its new telephone service and Internet service that will allow the delivery of fax, e-mail and voice mail through a single platform. The company formed Cllas Clever Communications to offer the new services, called Cllas Call and Cllas Cube, in Germany. The Cllas Call telephone service utilizes the network infrastructure of Media Ways GmbH and accords up to 60% in savings over Deutsche Telekom's tariffs. Meanwhile, the Cllas Cube, which allows calls using PCs, realizes universal messaging that bundles e-mail, voice and fax messages on a single platform.

Siemens section to become a separate firm on April 1
Article Abstract:
Siemens AG announced that its electromechanical components group will be turned into a legally separate firm beginning on April 1, 1999. The new company will be called Siemens Electromechanical Components GmbH. The firm will operate as a fully-owned Siemens unit. Siemens also stated that it is planning to spin the unit off at a later time. Siemens is waiting for an acceptable industrial or financial party to continue the business.
