The creation of the European Union has helped China create a counterweight to the US, as the union is set to become China's biggest trading partner and officials from both sides are working out modalities to improve ties further. There are, of course a host of difficulties that China faces with the country's human rights record topping the list of thorny issues but officials from both sides are confident that differences can be ironed out.

Despite the conception that a country's economic growth depends on its private sector, in China all the 33 top companies are identified to be either partially dominated or fully owned by the public sector. White goods maker Haier and computer-giant Legend are considered as the top two Chinese companies in the review list.
