Article Abstract:
The most dynamic part of the telecommunications business is seen as the wires that enter homes, and this is the reason for AT and T's acquisition of TCI, and planned acquisition of MediaOne. Cable companies have a leading position in this market, and there is a case for regulation to boost competition through permitting access by rivals to the companies' cables. Cable involves a natural monpoly, and there is a risk that cable companies can control the bulk of access to the Internet.
