Big Board aims for greater global role
Article Abstract:
DaimlerChrysler, the result of the union of Chrysler Corp. and Daimler-Benz AG that will become final in November 1998, is expected to boost the New York Stock Exchange's bid to become a global stock exchange. The company will be the first non-North America-based firm to be traded as "ordinary" on the US-based stock exchange's Big Board, the same status it will have in its home country. The distinction, which is expected to lead to increased trading on the Big Board, will permit the firm's shares to change ownership without going through the same conversion processes required for American depository receipts (ADRs).
