Richard Posner has been appointed mediator in the Microsoft antitrust case. Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson, who supports the government view that Microsoft has abused its monopoly power, has been keen on promoting a mediated settlement. Investors wish to see a settlement which would lead to an end to uncertainty over the company's future. It is unclear whether there is sufficient agreement between the two sides for a settlement to be achieved.
