Feed-forward neural networks and feature construction with correlation information: an integrated framework
Article Abstract:
A decision tree-based feature construction algorithm, FCcorr, for enhancing the speed and accuracy of the backpropagation algorithm used in training feedforward neural networks is described. The algorithm, which monitors both highly correlated and least correlated features, pre-processes data to simplify it and enable its use as input to the backpropagation algorithm. This, in turn, improves the learning performance of neural networks.

Imperfect maintenance
Article Abstract:
A review of the literature between 1979 and 1996 on mathematical models for determining reliability criteria and optimal strategies for the imperfect maintenance of single- and multi-component systems is presented. It evaluates the merits and disadvantages of implementing the the age-dependent preventive maintenance (PM), periodic PM, failure limit, sequential PM and repair limit PM policies.
