A healthy market: Finland has pulled itself out of depression and suddenly is catching the eye of companies and investors both within and outside the Nordic region

Finland introduced spending cuts worth 20 billion Finnish marks and now has a stable and growing economy with low inflation. Its financial sectors are highly developed and it is becoming increasingly popular with investors. Cross border acquisitions into Finland have increased and its internal M&A market is active. It has geographical advantages with the ability to access a large consumer base. All Nordic countries have shown interest in emerging markets, although most deals in eastern Europe and the Far East are small.

The metals sector was involved in a number of mergers and acquisitions within the mid-market range in May 2001. A great deal of the activity occurred in Nordic countries with Swedish firm Assa Abloy setting the trend.
