Black power
Article Abstract:
Black Entertainment Television (BET) chief executive, Robert Johnson, set up the company in 1979 and its programming is inexpensive, consisting mainly of music videos, while it is important for advertisers geared to the African American market. Digital techology could change this by increasing competition, though BET is already planning new ventures such as a gospel channel. Costs for producing original works are cheaper because there is less demand for African American actors.

Article Abstract:
Deutsche Telekom plans a number of disposals of its cable TV network, after having carried out acquisitions such as One-2-One, a mobile phone company, in Aug 1999. Bidders may be put off by the price that Deutsche Telekom seeks, or by its future involvment, as well as technological and regulatory issues. Broadband media is still seen as attractive, despite the problems, so there is a high level of interest in Deutsche Telekom's offerings.
