New banking risks are a result of the complicated derivatives markets and changes in links between banks. Banks must consider their payment systems and other systemic risks. Risk reduction plans, such as netting plans, are among methods being explored to create a more stable environment.

More effective risk management is the key to greater stability in the banking industry in the coming years. Banks can never become entirely risk-averse, or they will not be able to earn a profit. Management in these complex times calls for careful pricing of services.
